Our Health & Safety Policy

Chronos Construction Ltd is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors, and members of the public who may be affected by our work activities. This policy outlines our approach to managing health and safety in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated regulations.

Management Responsibilities

The Directors of Chronos Construction Ltd accept overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. We ensure that:

• Adequate resources are provided for health and safety management
• Risk assessments are conducted for all work activities
• Safe systems of work are developed and implemented
• All employees receive appropriate training and supervision
• Plant, equipment, and tools are maintained in safe condition
• Adequate first aid provisions are in place
• All incidents and near-misses are reported and investigated

Employee Responsibilities

All employees are expected to:

• Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others
• Cooperate with supervisors and managers on health and safety matters
• Report any hazards, incidents, or near-misses immediately
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for health and safety
• Attend all required training sessions

Site Safety Rules

The following rules apply to all Chronos Construction sites:

• PPE: Hard hats, hi-visibility vests, and safety footwear must be worn at all times on site. Additional PPE (gloves, eye protection, ear defenders) as required by specific tasks.
• Site Access: All visitors must sign in and receive a site induction before entering work areas.
• Working at Height: Fall protection measures must be in place for work above 2 metres. Scaffolding must be inspected before use.
• Manual Handling: Mechanical aids must be used where available. Team lifting required for loads over 25kg.
• Electrical Safety: 110V equipment only on site. All portable appliances PAT tested. No work on live electrical systems.
• Excavations: All excavations must be supported. No entry without permit and gas testing.
• Housekeeping: Work areas must be kept clean and tidy. Waste removed regularly. Walkways kept clear.
• Fire Safety: Fire extinguishers must be readily available. Hot work permits required for welding/cutting. Smoking only in designated areas.

Risk Assessment

Before any work commences, a site-specific risk assessment will be conducted identifying:

• Hazards associated with the work
• Persons at risk
• Existing control measures
• Additional controls required
• Residual risk level

Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and updated when work conditions change.

COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)

We maintain COSHH assessments for all hazardous substances used on our sites. Safety data sheets are available for all materials. Employees are trained in the safe use, storage, and disposal of hazardous substances.

Accident and Incident Reporting

All accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be reported immediately to the Site Manager. Serious incidents are reported to the HSE under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations). All incidents are investigated to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.

First Aid

Trained first aiders are present on all sites. First aid kits are maintained and regularly restocked. Emergency contact numbers are displayed prominently.

Emergency Procedures

Site-specific emergency procedures are developed for each project covering:

• Fire evacuation
• Medical emergencies
• Utility failures (gas leak, power outage)
• Structural collapse
• Environmental incidents (spillage)

Emergency drills are conducted regularly and all personnel are briefed on procedures during site induction.

Customer Safety

When visiting our premises or construction sites:

• Report to reception/site office on arrival
• Wear PPE as directed
• Stay within designated areas
• Follow all instructions from staff
• Report any hazards observed

Product Safety Information

Many construction materials require safe handling. When purchasing products from us:

• Read all product labels and safety information
• Use appropriate PPE when handling materials
• Store materials according to manufacturer guidelines
• Dispose of waste materials responsibly
• Keep safety data sheets for hazardous materials

Environmental Considerations

We are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our operations:

• Waste segregation and recycling on all sites
• Dust suppression measures during demolition/construction
• Noise management to minimize disturbance
• Protection of watercourses from contamination
• Use of sustainable materials where possible

Consultation and Communication

We consult with employees on health and safety matters through:

• Regular toolbox talks
• Safety committee meetings
• Incident feedback sessions
• Anonymous hazard reporting system

Review

This policy is reviewed annually or following any significant incident. Employees are notified of any changes.
